IS OF BEING
Ich beschäftige mich mit dem SEIN. Mit dem Frau-SEIN, dem nackt-SEIN, dem verliebt-SEIN, dem ICH-SEIN…
Schon immer habe ich gerne Menschen gezeichnet und gemalt. Das fiel schon in der Schule auf. Bei meiner ersten Schulausstellung habe ich das erste Portrait verkauft. Im Studium in den USA kam ich zum ersten Mal in Kontakt mit Akt – Begeisterung! – und habe noch mehr Menschen portraitiert – Begeisterung! – die ich dann in einer Galerie ausstellte – Begeisterung! / Bin ich jetzt Künstlerin?! –.
Portraits sind persönlich. Einen Menschen ins Gesicht schauen, den Körper anschauen und zu SEHEN. Sich zeigen und GESEHEN ZU WERDEN. Dich und mich vermischen und Farbe und Form geben.
Meine Vita ging im Zickzack weiter um die Welt: In China habe ich gemalt. In Guatemala habe ich weitergemalt. In Japan habe ich weitergemalt. In Spanien habe ich weitergemalt. In Deutschland male ich weiter. Immer wieder mit Pausen, aber weitergemalt. Überall wo ich lebte, hinterließ ich Bilder. Sie sind auf der Welt zerstreut, in Händen von Menschen die meinen Blick, meine Farben, meine Kunst schätzen. Mich schätzen und durch meine Kunst eine Verbindung zu mir haben.
Zurück in Würzburg fand ich wieder Mals meinen Weg zurück zur Kunst. Aber mit Pausen. Mit Umwegen. Mit Denken. Mit Warten. Mit zu viel Denken. Jetzt mag ich ein bisschen weniger denken und ein bisschen mehr SEIN – Künstlerin SEIN.
Was bedeutet SEIN? Ich schaue Dich an und finde ein Aufblitzen von dem was es sein mag… Was siehst Du?
My work is of BEING. Of BEING woman, of BEING naked, of BEING in love, of BEING me...
I have always loved drawing and painting people. That was already obvious in my school days. At school, I sold my first portrait at my first exhibition. During my studies in the US, I came into contact with nude drawing for the first time - Exciting! - and painted even more portraits of people - Exciting! - which I then exhibited in a gallery - Exciting! / Am I an artist now?!
Portraits are personal. Looking a person in the face, looking at their body, and SEEING. Showing yourself and BEING SEEN. Mixing YOU and ME and adding color and form!
I zigzagged around the world: I painted in China. I continued painting in Guatemala. I continued painting in Japan. I continued painting in Spain. I continued painting in Germany. Again and again with breaks, but I kept on painting. I left paintings everywhere I lived. They are scattered around the world, in the hands of people who appreciate my perspective, my colors, my art. Who appreciate me and have a connection to me through my art.
Back in Würzburg, I once again found my way back to art. But with breaks. With detours. With thinking. With waiting. With too much thinking. Now, a little less thinking and a little more BEING – BEING an artist.
What does BEING mean? I look at you and find a flash of what it may mean… What do you see?

Und wenn ich gerade nicht mit Künstlerin-sein beschäftigt bin?
Dann liebe ich es Sprache zu sein… Meine Sprachen – Englisch, Deutsch, Spanisch – zu leben: zu unterrichten, zu lesen, zu schreiben, zu singen, zu übersetzen, zu dolmetschen… und als Gästeführerin mit Menschen der ganzen Welt meine Liebe zu meiner Heimat Würzburg zu teilen. Denn Kunst und Sprache verbindet.
And when I'm not busy being an artist?
Then I love being language. Living my languages — English, German, Spanish — teaching, reading, writing, singing, translating, interpreting… and as a tour guide, sharing my love for my home city of Würzburg with people from all over the world.
I love art.
I love languages.
Essentially, it's the same: Connecting with people.
My face is hot - flushed.
My pulse, my heartbeat fast - racing.
A sharp breath - my nails dig.
